Xueqin Yang, Postdoctoral Fellow, 2025 -

Xueqin Yang was awarded her PhD from Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2025, after completing a combined Master's and PhD program. She is interested in understanding how forest phenology responds to extreme climate events, particularly droughts.

Jia Wei, Postdoctoral Fellow, 2024 -

Jia Wei received her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Hydrology and Water Resources from Hohai University. Dr Wei was awarded her PhD from Hohai University in December 2021. She is interested in climate modes impacts, climate extremes, and moisture recycling. In 2024, Jia Wei achieved “Hong Kong Scholar”, launched by the Society of Hong Kong Scholars and the China National Postdoctoral Council under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Mo Zhou, Doctoral Student, 2021 -

 

Mo Zhou received her Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information Science at Huazhong Agricultural University in 2018, and then she received her Master’s degree in Geomatics Engineering at Central South University in 2021. Her current research focuses on exploring extreme weather and climate events in coastal regions. In 2024, Mo Zhou was honoured with the "Best Paper Award" at the PolyU Research Student Conference (PRSC 2024). She was named First Runner-up and also received the People’s Choice Award at the FCE 3MT Competition 2025.

Sijie Tang, Doctoral Student (Joint with SUSTech), 2021 -

Sijie Tang received his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2018 and 2020, respectively. He received the PhD Fellowship under the SUSTech – PolyU Collaborative PhD Program. His research mainly focuses on physics-guided deep learning for hydrological predictions.

Yangyang Jing, Doctoral Student, 2022 -

 

Yangyang Jing received her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Nankai University in 2022. Her current research investigates the response of ecosystems to flash drought evolution.

Qiang Yu, Doctoral Student (Joint with SUSTech), 2022 -
 

Qiang Yu obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Hydrology and Water Resources from Wuhan University in 2018 and 2021, 
respectively. He received the PhD Fellowship under the SUSTech – PolyU Collaborative PhD Program. His current research focuses on urban flood simulation and prediction considering climate change impacts.

Jian Li, Doctoral Student, 2023 -

 

Jian Li received her Bachelor's degree in Physical Geography and Resources & Environment from Beijing Normal University in 2020, and she received her Master's degree in Natural Resources from Beijing Normal University in 2023. Her research focuses on the spatiotemporal dynamics of hydrological extremes.

Fengjia Zhou, Doctoral Student, 2023 -

 

Fengjia Zhou received her Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Hydraulic Engineering from Sichuan University in 2021, and then she received her Master's degree in Hydraulic Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2023. Her research mainly focuses on deep learning in hydroclimatic extremes.

Xing Cheng, Doctoral Student (2023 - ), co-advised with Prof. Jianli Chen

 

Xing Cheng received his Bachelor's degree in Geographical Information Science at Huazhong Agricultural University in 2020, and then he received his Master's degree in Geographical Information Science from Nanjing University in 2023. His research mainly focuses on lake extremes and dynamics.

Cancan Qiao, Doctoral Student, 2024 - 

 

Cancan Qiao received her Bachelor's degree in Physical Geography and Resources & Environment from Beijing Normal University in 2021, and then she received her Master's degree in Cartography and Geography Information System from Beijing Normal University in 2024. Her research mainly focuses on the impacts of climate extremes on agriculture and socio-economic systems.

Yiyang Zhao, Doctoral Student, 2024 - 

 

Yiyang Zhao received his Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering from Xi’an University of Technology in 2018, and his Master’s degree in Water Resources Management from the University of Bristol in 2019. His current research focuses on the detection and attribution of hydroclimatic extremes.

Huijiao Chen (Former Research Assistant), Doctoral Student, 2025 - 

 

Huijiao Chen received her Bachelor's degree in Geology from China University of Geosciences in 2015 and subsequently earned her Master's degree in Cartography and Geographic Information System from Sun Yat-sen University in 2018. Her research focuses on investigating the impacts of climate extremes on agricultural systems.

Huiying Li (Former Research Assistant), Doctoral Student, 2025 - 

 

Huiying Li received her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering at Wuhan University in 2018, and then she received her Master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering at Wuhan University in 2020. Her current research focuses on exploring the effects of weather and climate extremes on irrigation practices and crop production.

Xiaowen Huang received her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Engineering and her Master's degree in Biology from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology. She is interested in land-atmosphere interaction in climate change and the simulation of extreme weather events.

Xiongwei Gao received his Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in 2021, and subsequently obtained his Master's degree in Resources and Environmental Engineering from the same university in 2024. His research primarily focuses on exploring the dynamics of climate extremes.
