Boen Zhang, Postdoctoral Fellow, 2022 -

Boen Zhang received his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Land Resource Management from Wuhan University in 2015 and 2018, respectively. He received his Ph.D. from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022. His research focuses on examining climate-induced extreme events (droughts, floods, etc.). He is particularly interested in exploring compound extreme events.

Naeem Shahzad, Postdoctoral Fellow, 2023 -

Naeem Shahzad was a Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship awardee and received his Ph.D. from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022. He is an Earth observation and remote sensing professional, currently working on the estimation of land subsidence using the Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technique to assess flood inundation risk in coastal cities.

Yamin Qing, Doctoral Student, 2020 -

 

Yamin Qing received her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Technology (Artificial Intelligence) from North China Electric Power University in 2016, and then she received her Master's degree in Computer Applications Technology from North China Electric Power University in 2019. She is interested in the detection, attribution, and projection of weather and climate extremes. On 3rd December 2022, Yamin Qing achieved excellence in the Young Scientist Award in Physical & Mathematical Science, conferred by the Hong Kong Institution of Science.

Jiewen You, Doctoral Student, HKPFS, 2020 -

 

Jiewen You obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Surveying and Geo-informatics at Central South University in 2017 and 2020, respectively. He received the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship for pursuing a PhD degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Currently, his research focus is on the detection and attribution of hydroclimatic extremes and compound events.

Mo Zhou, Doctoral Student, 2021 -

 

Mo Zhou received her Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information Science at Huazhong Agricultural University in 2018, and then she received her Master’s degree in Geomatics Engineering at Central South University in 2021. Her current research focuses on exploring extreme weather and climate events in coastal regions.

Sijie Tang, Doctoral Student (Joint with SUSTech), 2021 -

 

Sijie Tang obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Environmental Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology in 2018 and 2020. He received the PhD Fellowship under the SUSTech – PolyU Collaborative PhD Program. His research mainly focuses on urban hydrology and hydroinformatics, by means of hybrid physics-based and data-driven modelling.

Yangyang Jing received her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Nankai University in 2022. Her research focuses on investigating the dynamics of hydroclimatic extremes.

Qiang Yu, Doctoral Student (Joint with SUSTech), 2022 -
 

Qiang Yu obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Hydrology and Water Resources at Wuhan University in 2018 and 2021. He received the PhD Fellowship under the SUSTech – PolyU Collaborative PhD Program. His research mainly focuses on rainfall-runoff modeling and the application of machine learning in hydrological fields.

Huijiao Chen, Research Assistant, 2018 -

 

Huijiao Chen received her Bachelor's degree in Geology from China University of Geosciences in 2015, and then she received her Master's degree in Cartography and Geographic Information System from Sun Yat-sen University in 2018. Her research focuses on exploring the temporal and spatial evolution of hydrological extremes.

Zongxu Xie, Research Assistant, 2023 -

Zongxu Xie received his Bachelor's degree in both Hydraulic Engineering and Economics from Tsinghua University in 2019, and he is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Tsinghua University. In 2022, he went to Egypt as part of the COP27 Youth Delegates with the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) China delegation, which is initiated by top universities in the world including Tsinghua, aiming to advance climate change solutions through research, education, and public outreach. At PolyU, he conducts research on investigating the impacts of compound extremes on terrestrial gross primary productivity.

Wong Chun Keung Michael, Student Research Assistant, 2021 -

 

Michael is currently an undergraduate student from the Department of CEE at the PolyU. He won a scholarship under the Undergraduate Research and Innovation Scheme (URIS) 2021/22. He has been working on a project titled "Development of a machine learning model for the prediction of extreme storm surges in Hong Kong".

Yuen Hau Yiu Yobee, Student Research Assistant, 2022 -

 

Hau Yiu Yuen is a student of BSc in LSGI. Her research focuses on landslide early warning by machine learning. She has been working on a project titled "Assessment and Prediction of Landslide Hazards Caused by Rainstorms in Hong Kong".

Wenyao Chen, Master Student, 2021 -

Wenyao Chen received her Bachelor’s degree in Land Resource Management from South China Agricultural University in 2021, and then started her Master’s degree (dissertation) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2021. She is studying extreme weather and climate events over China’s Greater Bay Area.

Liangqing Zhu, Master Student, 2022 -

Liangqing Zhu received his Bachelor's Degree in Surveying and Mapping Engineering from North China Institute of Science and Technology in 2022. He starts to pursue his Master's degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022. He is studying the spatial-temporal evolution of extreme weather and climate events under global warming.

Harris received his bachelor's degree in Social and Public Policies Studies at Lingnan University in 2022. And he started his master's degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022. He is studying the coastal adaptation related to sea level rise.
